REGISTERING NOW FOR GRAND YOUNG ACTORS! CAMP - HHS Drama Boosters run a theatre camp for our young friends - rising 3rd thru rising 6th graders: Grand Young Actors! camp at Herndon HS. Camp is June 28 - July 1st, 9 am - noon. Our director Morganne Davies is the camp director and the counselors are our older teens. The focus is on fun! No prior experience is needed. In past years, we've had shy kids exploring something new and kids who've already know they enjoy performing. Our campers hang out with our HHS student counselor, get to know our Theatre Director, get comfortable with HHS, and enjoy spending time with friends, new and old.
Please share this announcement with your neighbors who have younger kids and with your students and scouts and at dance class and with voice teachers! The camp flyer is on our website, www.herndondrama.org. If you can pass out flyers, please email email@example.com and we will drop off flyers. Thanks!
Herndon HS has a new service learning tool for students! x2VOL by intelliVOL is an award-winning tracking and reporting platform for student service learning hours that is used to customize service goals, centralize service hours and provide diverse service opportunities. x2VOL is available via Family Connection (accessed through BlackBoard) for each student where they can record service hours to be included in their college applications, scholarship applications, or resumes.
Serve. Reflect. Repeat.
Time is on your side with x2VOL. We make it easy to manage your volunteer activities; fast, easy, online. Tracking is easy, and logging hours to meet your school or student organization service requirements is quick. You can find service opportunities, too and write about your experience via Reflections. And we match service opportunities to the things you care about the most, so every hour matters even more.
This is pretty huge: 80% of colleges and universities surveyed by x2VOL agree that service learning history details impact the final decision of admittance.
Volunteering. The more you give the more you get.
For a look at x2VOL and all of its benefits, see the attached flyer and check out this linked video “Fairfax County Public Schools & x2VOL.” Please contact Krisna Taylor (firstname.lastname@example.org), HHS Director of Student Services or Mallory Joiner (email@example.com), FCPS Service Learning Resource Teacher with any questions. Thank you!
STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM - Parent Account Set-Up
This year FCPS is providing SIS Parent Account to Herndon High School families. This will enable access to view attendance, grades, and personal information, establishing another form of communication among student and parents and student and teacher. Also starting September 8, 2015, you must have an active SIS Parent Account to be able to login to FCPS 24-7 Learning. The same login will be used to access both the SIS and FCPS 24-7 systems on this date.
FCPS 24-7 Learning Parent View will provide access to view all of your child's available courses, Family Connection to view Academic and Career Planning and Bus Stop Information. You can also update your child’s Emergency Care Information through weCare@school.
SIS Parent Account will provide access to view your child’s student information, including attendance, report cards, class schedules, gradebook, course history, discipline, health, and school information, establishing another form of communication between home and school.
Please note that the calendar on the SIS Parent Account does not reflect the teacher’s calendar for the class. Continue to consult FCPS 24/7 Blackboard to view the class calendars, announcements, current assignments, and the teachers’ grading policies found in the syllabi. The SIS Parent Account also allows students and parents to view student’s grades. Once teachers have recorded the grades they will be visible. If there are questions, the parents should discuss the grades with their children for clarification. The expectation is that the student will communicate with both parent and teacher and provide a communication pathway between both.
If you had an active FCPS 24-7 Learning Parent View account by June 18, 2015, you will be able to continue using this account until the beginning of the 2015-16 school year. Each parent has or will receive a letter in the mail providing a web address, activation key, and directions on registering for an SIS Parent account. If you received a letter, but did not act within the allotted 45 days, you can contact our Student Services Department to schedule a time with our Registrar or Student Information Assistant to request a new activation code. We will be available to print new activation codes on Tuesday, September 16th from 6:30-7:00 pm and on Back to School Night, September 29th from 6:00-7:30 pm.
Once you set-up your account here is the link you can use to log in to access your account: https://sisparent.fcps.edu. You will need a registration code to access your account. To learn how you can register your SIS Parent Account (once you have your registration code) please watch this easy to follow video tutorial: http://youtu.be/CUAOZjFvaa0. Additional information is also available here: http://www.fcps.edu/is/instructionaltechnology/247help/parents.shtml.

Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring that the climate in all FCPS facilities is safe and secure. In support of this goal, FCPS provides weCare@school (weCare), an emergency care information system, available to FCPS parents and guardians who have registered for their own Parent account. weCare@school helps manage emergency medical information by enabling parents to enter and update their children’s medical data at their convenience.
Information on how to access FCPS 24-7 can be found at this link: FCPS 24-7:Parent View. Also helpdesk support is accessible by contacting FCPS 24-7 Learning Support Center. It is important to note that parents must first validate their identity using the SIS Parent online registration process. If the parent’s activation key, that was received by US Mail, has expired, they must contact the school for a new activation key. Once the account is registered, parents can log on to FCPS 24-7 Learning and update their children’s medical information, contact information, and physician information at their convenience.
