About London Towne Elementary School

London Towne Elementary School has served the Centreville community with academic excellence since 1969. For many years we have worked hard to provide a safe, caring, and instructionally rich environment for all our learners.

Today, our school is composed of a diverse student population that represents our global community. Our 900+ student body is comprised of children with a range of ethnic backgrounds, languages, talents, learning styles, and abilities. This wonderful, rich foundation gives us many reasons to celebrate our individual talents while at the same time remaining united and providing a warm and inviting school climate.

Students have opportunity to participate in our remarkable performing arts program through choral, band, and orchestra as well as weekly instruction for the fine arts and physical education. Technology is integrated into the curriculum and used to enhance instruction on a daily basis. We have several state-of-the-art mobile labs, and classroom laptops. Our students are fluent with online district and state assessments. We are truly an educational building of the 21st Century.

London Towne boasts of its many programs which are complimentary in nature and research based. A hallmark of our school is the Spanish Dual Immersion Program, which began in 1996 and continues to grow in quality and strength. We are a staff of life-long learners. One of the vehicles for teacher learning is Literacy Collaborative. All K-3 teachers at London Towne are required to participate in 2 years of professional development on how to teach reading and writing. This course work is supported by instructional coaching by our trained Literacy Collaborative Coordinator. Upper grade teachers are supported by 2 trained reading teachers. Our students also benefit from a guided math framework, a full-time technology teacher, a strong ESOL program, two full time guidance counselors, math resource teachers and several instructional coaches. Special Education teachers work within an inclusion model, teaming with classroom teachers to provide appropriate and high-quality instruction for all students.

After receiving a Teacher Leadership Development grant in 2007, London Towne was chosen to become a demonstration site for other schools. It is not uncommon to see teacher teams, from other FCPS schools, observing our teaching, team meetings, data analysis meetings, and curriculum planning. To date, we have continued to strengthen our leadership program through summer training where team leaders explore a variety of topics such as, current research on best instructional practices, school improvement planning, data analysis, and protocols for leading high-quality dialogue around instruction. This means that teaching teams work within a high-progress Professional Learning Community, where we continually seek to provide rigorous instruction for all children. We are proud of our collaborative culture where teachers, parents, and administrators operate within a shared vision and mission, one of always working to ensure that each student experiences success and continuous improvement.

Since 1969, and still growing! It's no mistake we are the London Towne LIONS – we roar with success and are full of PRIDE due to all we accomplish on a daily basis.
