PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT #1: GETTING TO KNOW TWAIN Do you have any questions about Twain MS or Fairfax County Public Schools? This evening will consist of a panel of Twain staff members who can answer questions about different departments, options, and concerns you may have about our school. Welcome, Principal Miller!
We are excited to welcome Charles Miller as principal of Twain MS, effective Thursday, August 11, 2016. Mr. Miller has 26 years of experience as an educator. He served as an associate principal at Hayfield Secondary School. Mr. Miller has also served as an assistant principal at Key Middle School, and served in an acting principal capacity at Twain Middle, Lee High and Hayfield Secondary Schools. Prior to his administrative experiences, Mr. Miller was a classroom teacher in Fairfax County and Arizona. Welcome aboard Team Twain, Principal Miller!

New Student Orientation Update
We look forward to meeting students who are new to Mark Twain Middle School (all incoming 7th grade students and our 8th grade students who are new to Twain this year) at our New Student Orientation, which will be held on Thursday, September 1, from 9am–11:00am. A specific orientation bus schedule will be made available next week. Please note that the orientation bus route is NOT the same as the school year bus route.
TigerFest will take place on August 31st between 3 and 8pm. This event is an opportunity for students and parents to submit all required forms (see Back-to-School forms two announcements below), recieve student schedules, practice opening lockers, purchase Twain spirit wear and get your questions answered about the upcoming school year. Students must be accompanied by an adult for this event. The following schedule will be used for TigerFest:
- 8th Grade Students (Last Name A-L) - 3:00pm
- 8th Grade Students (Last Name M-Z) - 4:00pm
- 7th Grade Students (Last Name A-L) - 5:15pm
- 7th Grade Students (Last Name M-Z) - 6:15pm
Back-to-School Night is scheduled for Thursday September 15th. The 8th Grade session will begin at 4:45pm and the 7th Grade session will begin at 7:30pm. We look forward to meeting all of our wonderful parents and guardians on this evening.

The following SIX forms are required to be completed prior to the start of the 2016-2017 school year:
1. Emergency Care Form– Please pick up a pre-printed copy of the following form in Gym 1 at TigerFest. Please be sure that all information has been updated with the most current information on your student. All students are required to turn in an updated, preprinted emergency care form at Tiger Fest. It is important that we ensure that all emergency information is correct and updated at the beginning of each school year.

Beginning in September 2015, Mark Twain Middle School will begin at 7:30 a.m. and dismiss at 2:15 p.m.

New Practice App
The Daily Practice for the New SAT mobile app is now available in the iTunes store, GooglePlay, and an Amazon for free. With it, students will receive an official sample SAT question daily and get immediate feedback and answer explanations. Students can also scan their completed SAT practice test answer sheets and get their scores in seconds.

The MTMS Literary Magazine is full of fantastic and thoughtful work by Twain's very own students (and staff!) It includes poems, photography, short stories, artwork, reviews, nonfiction writing, and more! Click here to check it out (You will need to be logged into your FCPS Google Account to view it.)

Turn Your Trash into Cash for MTMS!!!
Before you throw it in the trash, check to see if it can be used by MTMS. MTMS participates in several programs that use bottle tops or parts of labels as proofs of purchase. The programs in which MTMS currently participates are:
Box Tops for Education
Box Tops for Education – clip and save Box Tops coupons and drop them in the collection box in the front office. MTMS receives 10¢ for every Box Tops coupon submitted. Box Tops coupons come on a variety of items you have in your classroom – Kleenex, Ziploc bags, Hefty bags and plates, Avery binders and labels. Campbell’s Labels for Education
Submit the entire UPC (must have the whole UPC similar to the one directly above in order for it to count) from participating products in the collection box in the front office. For a list of participating products, visit www.labelsforeducation.com.
My Coke Rewards
My Coke Rewards - Open a My Coke Rewards account at www.mycokerewards.com, enter codes from bottle caps or flaps from can cartons from Coke products (Coke, Diet Coke, Fresca, Fanta, Minute Maid, Sprite, Mello Yello, Nestea, Segram’s, Mr. Pibb, etc.), and transfer points to MTMS through the SCHOOLS tab to help MTMS earn merchandise through this program, or drop off bottle tops and carton flaps in the front office.
