The Kindergarten Team at Colin Powell Elementary School value the transition to kindergarten as a major milestone for your child and family.  We believe the first year of school will have a major impact on your child's education.  Please join us as we celebrate this milestone with you as a valuable member of our school family.  You will experience a typical day in a kindergarten class to include our curriculum, routines, and expectations.  We are excited to meet you and introduce you to our great school and other awesome people waiting to welcome your family to our school family!

All children who reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2018 are eligible for kindergarten enrollment for the 2018 – 2019 school year. Parents will need to bring the following to registration:

  • Picture ID
  • Proof of Residency (original copy of deed or lease)
  • Child's original birth certificate
  • Child's physical and immunization record

Please call the school at (571) 522-6000 for a registration packet.  Forms and other information are also available online. Due to the time required to register your child, we request that only parents come to school for registration.

Important SOL Testing Information

Students in grades 3 – 6 will be taking the state Standards of Learning (SOL) tests beginning May 7 – June 1, 2018.  Tests will be administered in the morning unless otherwise indicated.

Note: Make up tests will be administered May 9-June 1, as needed

  • Thursday, May 17 - Math Part One
  • Friday, May 18 - Math Part Two

Student Information System (SIS) Parent Accounts

This parent account will enable access to view your student’s attendance, report card grades, and additional information, establishing another form of communication between home and school.

Parents will use their SIS Parent Account login ID and password to access Blackboard. Parents can continue to access FCPS 24-7 (Blackboard) at There is also a link within SIS that parents can click to access FCPS 24-7 Learning and vice versa. Parents will use the same login and password for both SIS and FCPS 24-7 Learning

Bring Your Own Device Technology Intiative (BYOD) Information

Devices no longer need to be registered each school year. The Acceptable Use Policy of the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook now includes permission for BYOD. Please see Mr. Decroo, in room 108, for assistance connecting to the wireless network.
